Licensing

OffstageArts is Copyright © 2005-2008 by Robert Fischer. It is free/open source software, and is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3. That means...

OffstageArts.org is committed to enhancing and supporting non-profit organizations in their unique missions. We believe that proprietary licenses and restrictive contracts erode self determination, thereby preventing organizations from making maximal use of resources and impairing their ability to compete effectively for customers and donors. For this reason, OffstageArts was developed from the ground up as a non-proprietary shared community resource.

This licensing model provides many benefits to organizations:

  • Organizations pay absolutely no license or per-ticket fees for the use of OffstageArts.
  • Organizations maintain complete control of all data produced and managed by OffstageArts.
  • Although many organizations will find that OffstageArts meets all their needs out-of-the-box, others will require require customizations, integrations and new features. Every organization can work directly with its chosen consultant to provide any customizations and features needed.
  • When organizations sponsor the development of new features for OffstageArts, they are encouraged to submit the program code to OffstageArts.org for inclusion in future versions of the main product. Thus, OffstageArts is a shared community resource. This business model is a win-win for all organizations involved, and it maximizes the effectiveness of technology-in-arts funding.

  • We are seeking to assign copyright to an appropriate non-profit organization that will safeguard the values of OffstageArts for the future.
